Megalania was a
giant lizard, reaching lengths of up to 6 meters which makes it the largest
terrestrial lizard that ever lived. Megalania was once thought to
belong to a distinct genus called Megalania prisca, it is now
recognized as a species in the genus Varanus, which includes all
monitor lizards.
